Trying to lose or maintain weight: Skip the second drink

3.6.15_Social_Skip2ndDrink

Although many individuals enjoy an alcoholic drink now and then, alcohol can lead to weight gain. Alcohol is energy dense with little nutrients. There are 7 calories per gram in alcohol, which is comparable to fat at 9 calories per gram. This means alcohol calories add up fast! Also, when drinking alcohol, it is broken down and used for fuel before any other sources in your body. This means food fuel (carbs, protein and fat)  are not used as fast. Instead, more is stored as fat, leading to weight gain!
